Update to City Plan 2025 Homepage
City Plan 2025 was recognized as one of four international winners for a 2007 Region and Metropolis Charter Award by the Congress for the New Urbanism. City Plan 2025 was adopted unanimously by the Fayetteville City Council in July 2006 and serves as Fayetteville's comprehensive land use plan. The Charter Award is one of the most respected international urban design awards and given by the leading organization promoting walkable, neighborhood-based development as an alternative to sprawl.
"We are honored to be recognized by the Congress for the New Urbanism. The entire community shares in this award. City Plan 2025 was the result of a tremendous amount of time and effort from the public, our staff, and elected and appointed officials. This plan should act as our road map as we implement policies that will determine how this town will grow and develop. We have an internationally recognized award winning vision. But having that vision as a road map is not enough. This administration and this Council must work together to make the hard decisions that are necessary to bring our collective vision into reality. If we plan our work and work our plan, we will build a city that continues to prosper and lead the way for all of Northwest Arkansas and the rest of the State."
Dover, Kohl and Partners were the lead consultants during the City Plan 2025 charrette and submitted the City Plan for the Charter Award. Other recipients for the Region and Metropolis category include two rebuilding projects in Louisiana and Mississippi and a nationwide streetcar project. Past winners include Vancouver, British Columbia, Providence, Rhode Island, and Marne-la-Vallée, France.
